The quay and riverside areas in the town are set to be transformed into a bustling cafe quarter, complete with a floating restaurant and river trips.
More than 30 ideas have been put forward by the Towy Riverside Development Group, which is working in partnership with Carmarthenshire Council.
Regeneration chiefs hope the development, which is expected to stretch between the White Bridge and town bridge, will become a key visitor attraction for the town.
Along with the cafe areas, a wetlands reserve on the floodplain is being looked at with new riverbank planting and improvements to bio-diversity.
It is also hoped to turn the Towy into a regatta venue with pontoons and promenades.
Land adjacent to the A40 could be developed into riverside gardens with the provision of footpaths and lighting, as well as a garden.
River group member Ian McCue told the Journal that further ideas have now been put on the table.
He added: "We want to enhance the project further and emphasise the aspect of more people using the river and the river banks.
"We want a cycle path and are looking at putting a lake in."
Facilities catering for river users, such as paddlers and coraclemen, have also been flagged up.
Mr McCue said a coracle museum and workshop for adults and children could be established.
"We are in talks with everyone involved with the river, including businesses along the quay," he said.
"It is important to help keep the heritage and traditions of the coracle alive for generations to come.
"A museum dedicated to the coracle would add to the scheme."
The ideas will be put forward at a full meeting of the riverside group later this month. |
